16 Jul 2014: I joined ResearchGate, mainly because their algorithm had already generated a profile for me by scanning authors and affiliations metadata from papers. But their algorithm had incorrectly listed me at the wrong institution. The listing was one of my co-author’s institutions, which is somewhere I have never even visited. There was no obvious way to fix it without joining the site and claiming the user profile. Maybe that was their ploy?
